Tree Removal with the GeoTrencher

Trenching Applications

A tree root removal trenching machine is one of the most efficient tools for cutting through deep and complex root systems. Tree roots can spread wide and deep, making them difficult to remove using manual tools or large excavation equipment. ( Can also be for living trees to plant again – OUT MAIN MARKET )

The GeoTrencher provides a precise and efficient solution by allowing operators to cut through root systems cleanly, making site preparation faster, cleaner, and more cost-effective.

How a Tree Root Removal Trenching Machine Works

Unlike excavators that disrupt large areas or manual digging that consumes time and labor, the GeoTrencher allows you to target only the root zones that matter.

Key Benefits:

✔ Cleanly cuts through roots and compact soil
✔ Minimizes damage to surrounding ground
✔ Faster than manual digging
✔ Ideal for tight or restricted spaces
✔ Reduces labor and overall project cost
✔ Access to tight areas that other machines can not get to

How GeoTrencher Works on Tree Roots

The GeoTrencher uses a chain trenching system designed to cut through soil and roots simultaneously.

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Identify the root spread around the tree, stump or bush
  2. Identify and obstacles or dangers and remove
  3. Trench around the base in a four or more cuts (you can trencher at an angle using a geocart with one wheel removed)
  4. Cut through major root systems – can use the geotrencher on its side to cut underneath the plant
  5. Remove or loosen the root ball for extraction

Choosing the Right Chain for Root Removal

Using the correct chain makes a huge difference in performance.

Available Chain Options:

  1. Narrow Chain (25mm)
    • Best for precision trenching and smaller roots
    • Ideal for cable runs and light root systems
  2. Standard Chain (38mm)
    • Most versatile option
    • Perfect for medium root systems and general trenching
  3. Wide Chain (58mm) (or Still Wide Chain (58mm)
    • Designed for larger trenches in sandy soils – will not work as well on larger roots
    • Ideal for sandy soil

Selecting the Right Depth

From your setup, depth options include:

  • 400mm Depth– shallow root systems and small bushes
  • 500mm Depth– standard landscaping work – most versatile length for use and efficiency
  • 700mm Depth– deep root systems and full removal -heavey to use but suitable for mature palms etc

Best Practices for Efficient Root Removal

✔ Start trenching outside the root zone, then move inward
✔ Deeper trenchign makes tree removal easier.
✔ Let the machine cut — avoid forcing it but soem roots like agapanthas may need a sawing action
✔ Wider chain will take more effort for the machine so try us use the standard chain
✔ Always check for underground utilities

What You Can Do After Root or Tree Removal

  • Fence installation
  • Irrigation systems
  • Electrical or fiber trenching
  • Landscaping redevelopment
  • Drainage systems

This makes the GeoTrencher a complete site preparation tool, not just a cutting machine.
